The idea for my diploma came naturally to me, and originated from my work. I deal with graphic design on a daily basis, I like minimalism and simple forms; I see beauty in trivial objects and simple shapes that surround me.

I started from buying sheets of paper with different textures. One by one, I arranged them in pairs and groups and then calculated where to make the cuts, at what angle and how long they should be. I was also wondering where to bend or fold the card to get the visual effect desired. Then, using the flash lighting in the studio, I tried to properly illuminate the stacked sheets of paper and then took the photos.

I also tried to limit the post-production process as much as possible to only necessary retouching: removing a larger scratch on the paper or disturbing visible creases.

I assumed that abstract art does not have to convey any deeper message. Its only purpose is to evoke emotions and interest in its recipients. Exhibiting my works, I noticed that each and every viewer read these works in a completely different way. What puzzled them most were the process and method of creating the photos, namely: what the larger shape looked like, what kinds of paper texture it was made of, where the cuts were made, whether a given form was concave or convex and what textures were combined.

This way 11 works were created.
Each of them are available in the form of photographic print via my Instagram profile @a.chojnacka
